Linda Cushing is President of Adjunct Faculty United, AFT local 6106 in North Orange County, California, representing 1400 credit and non-credit part-time faculty at Fullerton College, Cypress College, and School of Continuing Education. Cushing is also helping the California Federation of Teachers/American Federation of Teachers organize part-time faculty in Southern California. She was actively involved in the successful organization campaign at Palomar College in northern San Diego county, where 870 part-timers and 305 full-timers successfully formed a wall-to wall unit in December 2000. Cushing was also active in organizing part-time faculty at Citrus College, who recently filed for representation with the state of California.

In the winter of 1999 and spring of 2000, Cushing served as Statewide Chair and lead organizer of A2K (the Action 2000 Coalition), a public awareness project.
