Maria Peluso, CUPFA, Concordia University, Montreal, Quebec
Maria Peluso has been a part-time faculty member for the past 20 years at both Concordia University in the Department of Political Science and with Dawson College in the Humanities Department. She has been involved with the creation of the Part-time Faculty Union at Concordia University since the late 1970's. Became Vice President of the Concordia University Part-time Faculty Association (CUPFA) in 1989 and have been its President since 1994. Chief Negotiator for a successful second CUPFA Collective Agreement for 1998 and starting to work for 2001 negotiating our third collective agreement. Successful initiatives also include the creation of an Inter-Union Council at Concordia University and a subsequent class action suit involving the pension plan of all Concordia University employees. The law suit is an ongoing legal battle. Aside from part-time union activity, she has been involved with a number of social justice issues largely involving poverty or economic disenfranchisement. |
